Project Description

Background:

The Aventura Mall is an upscale super-regional shopping mall in Aventura, Florida. It is the largest conventional shopping mall in Florida, having a gross leasable area of 2,700,000 square feet (250,000 m2), and is the third largest shopping center in the United States. The mall has three floors of retail space, comprising more than 300 retailers. In addition, there is a food court with 18 fast food eateries, as well as several chains and other restaurants at the mall’s entrance.

The mall is currently anchored by Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, J.C. Penney, Macy’s (in two separate locations), Sears, and AMC Aventura 24 Theatres.

Problem:

Aventura Mall’s unique multi-level architecture posed a challenge for surveillance which required a better solution than what traditional surveillance solutions could offer. Traditional CCTV deployments simply could not afford management a solution for the detailed documentation the several escalators and elevators throughout the mall required.

Solution:

ATCi Communications worked with key management personnel at the mall and was chosen because of its technical experience with higher technology solutions. ATCi’s experience created a comfort level for management and was a key factor in their decision process.

High definition cameras were carefully placed at strategic locations throughout the mall. The initial deployment featured a beta deployment to test the success of the newer technology. A few months after the initial deployment, ATCi was asked to expand its initial success throughout other areas within the Mall. The increase in resolution has served the Mall as a force multiplier and reduced its exposure to liability by increasing its documentation resources.

ATCi Communicatons has continually maintained its first two phases and is currently working on a third phase.
